![]() ![]() The difficultly level is up and down like a yo-yo and the game is surprisingly bad at building up encounters and segueing from smaller set pieces to larger ones. Perhaps the greatest failing is simply how badly paced the game is. ![]() Games Inbox: How much more powerful will the PS5 Pro be? It’s particularly strange because Duke Nukem 3D is another obvious influence and there are special items like a holographic decoy and a mini-black hole that do seem to have been directly influenced by that game. This is especially true as one of the few exceptions – the cannon ball which can be rolled along the ground or fired in the air – is so much fun. There’s no freeze rays or shrink guns to match the wackiness of the enemies, which seems very odd. ![]() It’s also disappointing that the selection of weapons is so peculiarly dull, being composed of only generic shotguns, sniper rifles, miniguns, rocket launchers, and the like. Some weapons are better against particular enemies, some of which move in packs or are flying about in the air, but that’s about it. It's the only part left to do really because 3 and 4 filled out a lot of the Mental War that leads up to TFE.The variety of enemies is the one genuinely amusing thing about the game, especially as instead of appearing in the normal twos and threes of most shooters they come at you by the hundreds, a spectacle that makes Serious Sam unique in terms of other first person shooters.ĭespite so many different designs though few of them have distinctive abilities. That's at least where the story seems to be going. Off the top of my head here, if Sam were to use that rocket at the end of TSE to go to Sirius? That would lead us to a situation where he can use a Time Lock to travel to a NEW timeline as suggested in Serious 4's final level opening cutscene where they can successfully defeat Mental and save the galaxy. They've really built up this story and I'd love to see it be finished. Apart from it being non-canon (apparently), the ending was a cop out. Even if we have to wait another 5-6 years, I really hope we see one last entry to the series where Mental is finally defeated once and for all. ![]() Game series that just DON'T finish the story is one of my pet peeves. I really wanna see the series reach a conclusion and not just have it left open-ended. Serious Sam 5 could easily lead on from The Second Encounter and tie into the first cutscene of Serious Sam 4's final level. Quite frankly, we're in a position now after the way Serious Sam 4 ends where we just need ONE more game to wrap up Sam's story for good. May be some fans - at least they fix your games much better than you. Or hire someone else to do new Serious Sam games instead of you. Make new Talos games, hell, make something completely original, a brand new franchise! Just leave Sam alone. So why not just abandon the series? Let it DIE peacefully in grace, rather than trying to fix it and recapture that old magic again with weird results. They did it for 20 years, so it's expected to happen. It's clear to me that Croteam members are old, sick and tired of Serious Sam. The Talos Principle, on the other hand, was once again something refreshing and great. It seems they desperately try different things and approaches with the series, but can't capture that magic of the first games. I would say, everything started going downhill somewhere around Serious Sam 2. But, let's face it - Croteam lost their touch when it comes to new Serious Sam games. You did a lot of great stuff over the last two decades, awesome games. I don't know if Croteam will read this to begin with, but I feel the need to share my opinion with people.ĭear Croteam, thank you for amazing 20+ years of gaming. ![]()
